We don’t have to look very far for a case study illustrating the importance of Life-Saving Connections. A few years ago, a project manager at Minnesota Wire woke up on a Saturday feeling off: a congested chest, lightheadedness, and a little dizzy. He assumed it was the beginning of a typical cold. As the morning passed and his symptoms continued, his wife convinced him they needed to go to the emergency room.

An electrocardiogram showed what he thought was cold symptoms, was, in fact, an atrial fibrillation. The Mayo Clinic describes atrial fibrillation as “an irregular and often rapid heart rate that can increase your risk of stroke, heart failure, and other heart-related complications”. 

The doctors offered two options: stay in the hospital for another 12 hours so doctors could monitor his condition, or he could have his heart shocked back into rhythm with a defibrillator. 

He has shepherded many (too many to count) defibrillator leads and connectors through the engineering, manufacturing, and testing phases at Minnesota Wire, and had complete confidence in the instruments that would be used to shock his heart back into rhythm, which is exactly what happened.

His wife’s insistence to visit the emergency room saved him from a variety of complications, including possible life-altering complications. He’s had no episodes since then and now takes medication to control his AFib.
